World Of Music Choir: Tuesday 19th January – Burns Night Special! ‘Green Grow the Rashes’ led by Bella Hardy

*If you would like to pay for choir sessions, please donate to our Young Musician Instrument Bursary Fund: https://donorbox.org/womchoir*

Tune in every Tuesday at 6pm (UK time) to join the World Of Music Choir online! Sing traditional and modern songs, harmonies and rounds. We learn by ear so you don’t have to read music, but if you would like the notation it can be downloaded from this dropbox, where we’ll also upload an mp3 of the song to sing-along to after the session!

This week we’re singing the Robert Burns song ‘Green Grow the Rashes’, a version learnt from the wonderful Michael Marra. You can hear his performance of it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROKEvCg3sOY .

This live choir is interactive; you can comment and ask questions, and the video will be available after the workshop.

This Week’s Song: Green Grow the Rashes

(Robert Burns/Traditional)

Chorus: Green grow the rashes, O
Green grow the rashes, O
The sweetest hours that e’er I spend,
Are spent among the lasses, O

There’s nought but care on ev’ry hand
In ev’ry hour that passes, O
What signifies the life of man
An’ ’twere not for the lasses, O

The worldly race may riches chase
And riches still may fly them, O
And though at last they catch them fast
Their hearts can ne’er enjoy them

Give me a cannie hour at e’en,
My arms about my dearie, O
And worldly cares, and worldly men,
May all go tapsalteerie, O

Old Nature swears, the lovely dears
Her noblest work she classes, O
Her ‘prentice hand she tried on man

And then she made the lasses, O
